Derek Osman 07.11.2026

Bradley Cooper will lead the G. I. Joe

The upcoming film will not have a final title yet. The story is set in the fictional town of Springfield. This invented community references the television series The Prisoner . Springfield was designed to confuse Joe team members. It helped them recognize Cobra's terrorist secrets. Cobra serves as G. I. Joe's main adversaries. However, the premiere week lacks significant box office rivals. No other major production has confirmed a release on that date. The preceding week features two seasonal titles. Dan Trachtenberg's Freddy the 13th competes with an unknown Blumhouse film.

Bradley Cooper will lead the G. I. Joe team. Previously, the franchise lacked a main distributor. Danny McBride will direct and write the screenplay. He also co-wrote the script. Cooper plays Sergeant First Class Conrad „Duke” Hauser. Channing Tatum previously portrayed this character. In the animated version of the Springfield story, the main character was Marine Shipwreck, a bird enthusiast. It is unclear if the film will alter this premise. It might show Duke as restrained or in action outside Springfield. He could try to free Shipwreck or another character. Animated materials usually show Duke as the Joe team leader. From a toy perspective, he is subordinate to General Clayton „Hawk” Abernathy.

The 2021 release, Snake Eyes, was both

In 2009, G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra debuted alongside several films. These included Milla Jovovich's thriller A Perfect Getaway . It also featured Julie & Julia with Amy Adams and Meryl Streep. Other titles were Paper Heart and Larry Fessenden's I Sell the Dead . The sci-fi film Cold Souls starred Paul Giamatti. This G. I. Joe premiere reached number one nationally. It grossed $54.7 million, its highest debut for the franchise. G. I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013 earned more. It generated $375.5 million globally. Competition that week included Tyler Perry's Temptation . It also featured the low-budget alien invasion film The Host .

The 2021 release, Snake Eyes , was both a prequel and reunion. It proved a commercial failure, earning only $40 million worldwide. This edition faced stronger competition. It lost the weekend to M. Night Shyamalan's existential comic-hero adaptation, Old . Mark Wahlberg's anti-bullying film, Joe Bell , also debuted that weekend. Val Kilmer's documentary Val was also shown.

Snake Eyes may have lost fans. This was partly because the usually silent character started speaking. Also, many established G. I. Joe figures were omitted. G. I. Joe is typically a team-based franchise. Imagine an A-Team film focused only on Hannibal. It lacks B. A. or Murdock. It is questionable if October is the right time for this title.
