How Does This Reboot Honor the Original While Innovating?
The Miami Vice 85 project seeks to balance nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, retaining the original’s signature visual flair—pastel suits, luxury cars, and synth-driven soundtracks—while exploring deeper themes of corruption, identity, and justice in 1980s Miami. Unlike a direct remake, the series uses the era as a backdrop to examine systemic issues through personal narratives. Michael B. Jordan, who also serves as a producer, has emphasized the importance of authenticity, noting the team consulted historians and former law enforcement to ground the drama in realism. Austin Butler, coming off a critically acclaimed dramatic turn, is expected to deliver a nuanced portrayal of a detective haunted by past choices.
Will Edi Gathegi’s character have a superhero background like Mr. Terrific? No, his role in Miami Vice 85 is grounded in the crime drama genre and does not involve any superhero elements or abilities.
