Project Hail Mary Sequel Status
Andy Weir answered fans’ questions about a possible continuation of Project Hail Mary. He confirmed that no sequel is being written, stating he returns to the universe only when a compelling idea emerges. The original novel follows Ryland Grace, a professor who awakens aboard a spacecraft with no memory, gradually discovering why he is there and what happened to his crew. The film adaptation, starring Ryan Gosling, earned $684 million at the box office and holds a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Weir’s new book is an independent novel, not a continuation of any previous work. In a ScreenRant interview, he explained that the manuscript is over 95,000 words and that he has entered the third act, nearing the story’s conclusion. He noted that the draft is already well underway.
Editing Process and Timeline
Finishing the initial outline does not mean immediate publication. After completing the first draft, Weir sends it to his editor, receives feedback, and then begins revisions. He joked that the comments can bring him to tears, questioning his authorship for three days before starting edits. This cycle typically delays release by about a year.
Other Projects
Weir also served as executive producer for the Audible original audiobook Exoplanet, written by Benjamin Percy and featuring Anthony Mackie, Ariana DeBose, and John Leguizamo. It will launch exclusively on Audible on November 5.
Future Plans
For now, Weir’s next publication will be a standalone novel. A sequel to Project Hail Mary will not materialize in the near future. The update first appeared on ComingSoon.net, covering film, TV, and streaming news.
