Joachim Rønning Announces New Horror Project System with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios

A Secretive Approach to Casting and Storytelling

Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning, best known for directing Disney’s Tron: Ares, has officially launched his next project—a horror film titled System—produced in collaboration with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios. The film is currently in production in London, though details about its plot and cast remain tightly guarded. Rønning is serving as both director and co-writer on the project, marking a return to genre filmmaking after his work on the sci-fi sequel.

What sets System apart from typical studio announcements is the deliberate secrecy surrounding its key elements. Unlike most productions that reveal cast names or plot outlines early in development, Rønning and his partners have chosen to keep both the storyline and the ensemble under wraps. This strategy echoes a growing trend among auteur-driven genre films, where mystery is used as a tool to build audience intrigue. Industry insiders suggest the decision may reflect Rønning’s desire to maintain creative control and avoid premature speculation, especially given his recent experience navigating high-profile franchise expectations with Tron: Ares.

Why Is the Cast Being Kept Hidden?

The choice to conceal the cast raises questions about the film’s tone and ambitions. By withholding actor names, the team may be aiming to prevent audience bias or to preserve the surprise factor essential to effective horror. It could also signal an intention to work with emerging talent or international performers not yet widely recognized in Western markets. Spooky Pictures, known for backing psychologically intense and atmospheric horror, and Image Nation Studios, which has expanded into global genre co-productions, appear to be aligning with Rønning’s vision for a film that prioritizes mood and unpredictability over star power.

What is known about the plot of System? As of now, no official details about the storyline have been released. The film’s narrative remains confidential, with neither the studio nor Rønning’s team offering any hints about its themes or setting.
